~Hi, I'm Abrar

It's hard to define what I am, but most people know me as a Software Engineer. I love building things. I don't just write code, I engage with stakeholders to understand user requirements, translate them to technical to-dos, create mockups, develop features, gather feedback and iterate. In that sense you might feel I'm more of a Product Manager.

I have over a year of experience in building production grade systems. I am currently working as a Product Builder at Doodlepad. Before that, I worked at Intelsense AI, where I contributed to migrating the build tooling from Webpack to Turbopack, and integrated Redux and TanStack Query for state and Data Management. Prior to that I worked at SECL as a junior software engineer. You can see my experience here.

One project I really enjoyed working on is CurioKids, an AI powered learning app for kids with interactive and gamified lessons. Building CurioKids required interviewing parents and children, creating mockups, iterative building and collecting feedback, which made me realize I have what it takes to step beyond being just a developer and becoming a manager. I also built Grít, a CLI logging tool for developers. Think of it like Git, but instead of tracking what changed, it tracks the developers thoughts behind the changes. See more of what I do here.

I am ever-curious about learning how things work under the hood. And I believe the best way to learn is by building. That's why I am currently writing my own interpreter in Go and my version of Redis. I recently built a Multi-threaded PDF Compressor in Golang to see how changing the number of concurrent workers impacts compression time.

I enjoy participating in hackathons. Although I go for the kits and the vibes, I ended up winning a few. Me and my teammates(Jessan and Rawad, both of whom are incredibly talented) once participated in a DevOps hackathon and ended up being the champion. We had to build a Fault Tolerant Microservice and deploy it. We became runner-up in another hackathon where we had to build an offline-capable Telehealth Platform. I enjoy reading. I read both Bengali and English literature, with a focus on classics. Two books I absolutely recommend are Pother Pachali (Bivuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay), which is a masterstroke depiction of rural Bengal in the 20th century; and Siddhartha (Hermann Hesse), that portrays the journey of self-discovery of a man named Siddhartha during the time of Gautam Buddha.
